Superannuation Guidance for Employers

Entitlement

  • Employer needs to pay super guarantee (SG) to the employee who has been paid $450 or more (before tax) in a calendar month, regardless of whether your employee is full-time, part-time or casual.
  • Temporary residents working in Australia are eligible for SG as well.  When they leave Australia, they can claim the super as a departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP).

More about DASP

Calculate the Amount

  • Super guarantee is currently calculated at 9.5% of a casual employee’s ordinary time earnings. This includes their wage plus any casual or shift loadings for ordinary hours of work. It also includes commissions and some allowances, but it doesn't include overtime payments.

Missed a Super Guarantee Payment

  • Subject to new law, a Superannuation Guarantee (SG) Amnesty is available to employers until 23 May 2019 - giving you the opportunity to make catch-up SG payments without penalty.
